Florida State football will be facing an uphill battle with its confidence this season, as it had a 2-10 record in 2024 and capped off a 5-7 campaign in 2025. This is not the expectation for a program that has expectations of competing for championships.
However, this is the reality that the Seminoles face after having six losing seasons in eight years. The days of Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher are long gone. The Florida State faithful have to relive the past in order to achieve a feeling of sustainable success.
This doesn't mean that Mike Norvell cannot get it figured out. The administration did announce that he would be retained for the 2026 season. This did not give the fan base warm and fuzzy feelings that everything will be okay, though.
Mike Norvell and Florida State might have to worry about Boston College in 2026
One of the more eye-opening statistics includes the fact that the Seminoles have not won a road game since they beat the arch-rival Florida Gators in 2023. Yes, it has been that long since Florida State has won away from Doak Campbell Stadium.
The first road contest of the year doesn't get any easier for the Seminoles, as they play the Alabama Crimson Tide in a revenge game after dropping the season opener last year. I am sure that head coach Kalen DeBoer will be incredibly focused this time around.
Florida State also has other road games that could be difficult, with a Friday night tilt against Louisville and playing arch-rival Miami in their rented-out stadium. One contest that Seminole fans are thinking about when the Seminoles take on Boston College in Chestnut Hill on November 7th.

Even though the Eagles had a miserable 2-10 season in 2025, they are always a tough out when playing them on the road. Head coach Bill O'Brien doesn't seem to be a quarterback's dream to play for, but it looks like he might have a star in Mason McKenzie.
McKenzie was a threat to run at his previous stop, and we all know how the Seminoles have historically not been able to stop dual-threat quarterbacks on the road (specifically Thomas Castellanos in the 2023 matchup against Florida State). Hopefully, Tony White and his squad will be up for the challenge to stop Boston College's offense in 2026.
