Florida State football has seen its share of struggles, with the Seminoles winning a combined seven games in the past two years. The program had 23 total wins in the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, which shows the blueprint to success.
Fans don't want to hear that right now, as head coach Mike Norvell is firmly on the hot seat. This development doesn't resonate well with the recruits who are interested in coming to Florida State.
While it isn't making excuses, it does make sense why the Seminoles are outside of the top-40 in the 2027 247Sports Composite rankings and only have six commitments in the fold. To make matters worse, defensive back commit Mekhi Williams and linebacker commit Gregory Batson are looking at other schools.
Florida State has all the tools to be successful again, but they have to be consistent. This turnaround of the field could help elevate the recruiting woes that the program is facing. The tough part is that the Seminoles don't have a quarterback prospect in their recruiting class.
The search to find a quarterback has been difficult for Florida State
Signal-callers are usually considered the vocal leaders of the class and get other targets to hop on board. The disappointing part is that the Seminoles were thought to be the leaders for four-star Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV from Vero Beach, Florida, before he chose to commit to Notre Dame.
They slow-balled the recruitment and probably should've put the foot on the pedal a while back. Florida State is now dealing with a similar situation with three-star Logan Flaherty from Port Charlotte, Florida, as he recently de-committed from UCF and is now trending to Rutgers
Noles247's Zach Blostein recently put in a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Scarlet Knights, and Flaherty will be officially visiting there on May 29th. This is a difficult situation because now Florida State will have to recruit in a quarterback market that is filled with prospects who are committed elsewhere.
Even though Florida State has not developed a high school quarterback properly since Deondre Francois at this point, I can understand why recruits are going to other schools. I hope that either Kevin Sperry and/or Malachi Marshall can develop properly so that the Seminoles don't have to keep entering the transfer portal market every year for a quarterback.
