Florida State football has had its fair share of struggles throughout the last two seasons, where the program has combined to have only seven wins in two years. It has been difficult to navigate through the struggles with head coach Mike Norvell at the helm.
The national media have been hard on the Seminoles with their losing ways over the past two seasons, and it was even worse when they were snubbed from the four-team College Football Playoff in 2023. ESPN's Paul Finebaum and Greg McElroy took numerous shots at Florida State for not belonging in the playoff, players opting out, and the blowout loss against Georgia.
One supporter who has always been there for Florida State has been Danny Kanell. Obviously, he was a former Seminole quarterback from 1992 to 1995. His best season came in 1995, when he had 2,957 passing yards with 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions (according to nolefan.org).
Former Florida State quarterback Danny Kanell has a hot take on social media
Kanell's takes have been rather outlandish, but Florida State fans still love him from when he was a player. One of the hotter topics in college football right now is about College Football Playoff expansion, and Kanell had something to say about it on Twitter (X).
One trend I am noticing...the SAME people who never wanted a 4 team playoff are the SAME people who didn't want a 12 team playoff. And now those SAME people are pounding the table against expansion. Even tho the 12 team playoff has been a MASSIVE success they don't admit it!!!

To be honest, I don't love the 12-team playoff, and I am in that same boat as the individuals that he is tweeting about. Kanell notices a trend that is happening across the sport, and it makes me wonder if regular-season games will even matter anymore.
These college football teams don't even have to win their conference championships (yes, I am speaking to you, SEC schools). Meanwhile, a team like Florida State in 2023 goes undefeated in the regular season and wins the ACC, then doesn't make it in the playoff. It should be noted that the current Florida State team is in a mess and that it needs to get itself out of the rut.
It is all just a greed for more money for the TV networks. However, it is insane that the whole format revolves around what a committee wants, and oftentimes it isn't even the twelve best teams, like it was this past year (James Madison and Tulane).
The only aspect that I think is productive in the College Football Playoff games is that teams seeded five through eight get a home playoff game, which could boost their team's revenue, get eyes on the program, and help the local businesses in the area.
This is a rare occurrence where I will have to disagree with the former Seminole on this one, but obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
