Florida State's recruiting class for the 2027 cycle has been stagnant, as the Seminoles only have six commitments in the class and rank outside of the top-30, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Florida State has been through a lack of consistency, where the program has suffered six losing seasons in eight years. This decade as a whole has been tough to endure for the Seminole faithful.

However, this is still the place that the legendary Bobby Bowden built, even though it might be unrecognizable right now. The fan base is not bought in this offseason, and who could truly blame them? The Seminoles went 5-7 on the year after beating Alabama in the opener.

The expectations were high, but then Florida State lost seven of its last nine games to make individuals wonder if head coach Mike Norvell is the answer. While I hope that Norvell can push through and get the job done, he and his squad will have to put their head down and work.

Unfortunately, high school prospects are reactionary and care about the product on the field and how they will be utilized. Four-star safety Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida, is Florida State's highest-rated commit in the 2027 cycle. Williams was flirting with the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes before they went in a different direction.

Florida State could be losing defensive back commit Mekhi Williams to LSU if they aren't careful

The Seminoles now have a new competitor in the race with the LSU Tigers. New head coach Lane Kiffin and his squad possess a ton of excitement, with it being his first year in Baton Rouge. Plus, LSU is in the SEC, and they have a good program tradition, just like Florida State.

The Tigers made their offer to Williams on May 4th, which is concerning. However, the even more concerning part is that LSU has already scheduled an official visit with the defensive back for the weekend of June 19th. For reference, Florida State scheduled theirs for the weekend of June 5th.

When it rains, it pours for Florida State fans. Rivals' LSU Insider Shea Dixon dropped a prediction on Friday in favor of LSU for Mekhi Williams. The Seminole faithful have already had to deal with several flips on National Signing Day. Why does the fan base have to suffer even more heartbreak?

Wisconsin can also be a team that cannot be counted out in the race, but LSU is very concerning for Florida State going forward. The Seminoles have to find a way to seal the deal with Williams and keep him in the fold.
