Florida State football finished the 2025 season with a losing record. This is the fourth time in six years that the Seminoles have accomplished that feat. The fan base is becoming worried about there being a negative trend associated with the program.
Meanwhile, arch-rival Miami Hurricanes made it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana. Even though it is fun to clown on quarterback Carson Beck, throwing the interception at the end to lose it, the Seminoles have to find a rhythm.
Florida State is trying to locate sustainable success in a program that legendary Bobby Bowden built. I never thought that I would see a day when the Seminoles had six losing seasons in eight years, but here we are.
Four-star safety commit Mekhi Williams is looking into the Miami Hurricanes
Florida State's 2026 recruiting class had some positive pieces to build, but the 14th-best recruiting class isn't something that the Seminoles' fan base wants to get used to. While the transfer portal is an important piece of roster management, high school recruiting is a core foundation of a program.
The Hurricanes have prioritized the line of scrimmage on offense and defense, and they get a ton of credit for doing so. However, Florida State has to find a way to get back on track during the 2027 recruiting cycle. While they will not sign for quite some time, it is important to build relationships with those prospects.
Florida State has four commitments secured in its 2027 class with four-star safety Mekhi Williams, four-star linebacker Gregory Batson, three-star safety Jemari Foreman, and three-star tight end Connor Winn.
Miami head football coach Mario Cristobal recently visited Williams, where he posted the following on his social media account.
Listen…listen… I love Miami 🙌🏽👀💚🧡@coach_cristobal @CanesFootball @cjhetherman @TomLoy247 @Andy_Villamarzo @Andrew_Ivins @DemetricDWarren pic.twitter.com/LKkaSMFI9d

Listen, I realize that these kids are a different breed when it comes to the recruiting process, but if I were committed to Florida State, I wouldn't be caught dead flashing up the Miami "U" hand signal. I don't care where I am from, I would never claim to love Miami if I have been committed to Florida State since March 2025.
Overall, this is a recruitment that I believe the Seminoles' coaching staff has to monitor for a while because it is clear that Florida State has to battle Miami for Williams's services. This is a top-150 prospect in the 2027 cycle (according to 247Sports Composite) that the Seminoles cannot afford to lose.
