Florida State football fans have been disappointed over the program's recruiting efforts after the Seminoles have never achieved a top-ten recruiting class under the guidance of head football coach Mike Norvell.
This isn't putting pitchforks at Norvell's dedication to recruiting, but Florida State has to ensure that it sees production on the trail with the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes trying to gain sustainable success after reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana.
Mike Norvell has shown the capability to be successful in Tallahassee after his 10-3 record in 2022 and 13-1 record in 2023, but the 2-10 disaster in 2024 made fans question the process of the "Climb". How are recruits supposed to be impressed by the product on the field?
Florida State's coaching staff prepares for Junior Day this weekend
Florida State's coaching staff has been trying to attract 2027 prospects to come to Tallahassee. Coming into the day, the Seminoles had four commitments in the fold, which didn't seem eye-opening given their pursuit of in-home visits as well as getting them on campus.
We already discussed how the defensive ends coach Nick Williams has been working hard on the recruiting trail, with grabbing a four-star pass rusher Anthony Cavallaro this afternoon. Coach Williams is in line to acquire more defensive ends.
In the meantime, linebackers coach Ernie Sims is trying to get a talented defender of his own as Class of 2027 three-star linebacker Joakim Gouda from Douglasville, Georgia, is expected to be in town for the Junior Day this weekend.
Gouda recorded 100 tackles and two sacks during the 2025 season (according to MaxPreps). The Seminoles want to continue stacking talent at the linebacker position, where Florida State is hoping veteran transfer Chris Jones excels in his role and will attract more high school recruits to want to be like him.
