Florida State football takes on Virginia Tech this weekend at home this weekend, in a game that many fans probably don't care about, even though it is Homecoming and the home finale. This is a Seminoles squad that has lost five of their last six games in what has been an inconsistent showing.
The Seminoles need to find a spark to close out the 2025 season, as they have Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, and Florida in the final three matchups. The players obviously care about head football coach Mike Norvell, even though some of the fan base doesn't.
Coach Norvell brought a 10-3 and 13–1 seasons to Tallahassee, but the 3-6, 5-7, and 2–10 records haunt him, too. This has gotten individuals to think about the 2026 campaign already when we are midway through the month of November.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN GAINING WEIGHT
Florida State's offensive line has performed well under assistant coach Herb Hand. He has been through some Power Four stops along the way that have helped him in his journey. However, the Seminoles do have a veteran position group filled with seniors that they grabbed from the portal.
To avoid dipping back in that well, Florida State need some of its youngsters to emerge. I already wrote about Coach Norvell raving about offensive tackles Lucas Simmons and Jonathan Daniels. Then, interior players such as Sandman Thompson and Andre Otto were also mentioned.
The icing on the cake is that he mentioned true freshman Chastan Brown gained 50 pounds throughout his short time at Florida State. The Warner Robins, Georgia, native has been someone that has struggled with getting the weight on his frame.
Fans were quickly reminded of another offensive lineman that couldn't gain the weight to put on his frame in Jalen Goss. However, Brown was a former four-star prospect that was previously committed to the UCF Knights before following Gus Malzahn and Herb Hand over to Tallahassee.
Brown is listed at 6'7" and 265 pounds on the official Seminoles' roster, but I wonder if he has gotten up to the 285 or 290-pound mark. That would be exceptional for someone that the coaching staff probably didn't think would be able to contribute right away.
