Did FSU loss to Miami cost Noles a chance to land blue-chip recruit in attendance?

A win would have definitely helped the Noles.

Florida State basketball saw its three-game winning streak snapped with an 83-73 loss against the rival Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday night inside the Tucker Center. It was the biggest crowd of the year, and the game was closer than the final score as FSU had an important recruit taking his official visit.

Four-star Martay Barnes said he was down to two schools after reclassifying from 2027 to the 2026 recruiting class. He took an official visit to Auburn and saw them narrowly defeat Kentucky over the weekend before visiting FSU for the Miami game.

Barnes was seen dapping up some Miami players after the game while wearing FSU gear:

While it’s probably not a good look to see him dapping up Miami players, it’s a different time where players don’t necessarily care about rivalries like they used to. Also, Barnes has never indicated he was interested in Miami, only Auburn and FSU, unless something new has developed over the last couple of days.

It’ll be interesting to see how the visit affects his decision. Auburn and FSU are in similar spots with first-year head coaches. Miami has a first-year head coach and has the Canes playing much better than they had over the past few years. FSU upsetting the Canes on the road earlier this season was big.

If anything, Auburn only signed one player in its 2026 recruiting class, while FSU signed four (two shooting guards), which doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies. That’s a lot of competition, but FSU does play an offensive brand that needs shooters; that’s attractive.

I'd expect we'll start hearing some news about where things are trending relatively soon. However, I don't think him dapping up Miami players means anything.
