Florida State's defense has not been ideal this season under new defensive coordinator Tony White. Much of that had to do with the fact that the Seminoles are adjusting to the multiple 3-3-5 scheme that they have never run before.
The Seminoles lost to North Carolina State this Friday night by a score of 21-11, where the Wolfpack had 286 total yards. The defeat was not primarily on the defense. The other side of the football on offense has let the team down by not finishing drives.
With that said, Coach White has an opportunity to finish the regular season on a high note with a victory over the arch-rival Florida Gators this Saturday afternoon. This is much more than a game to many Seminole fans, it is bragging rights and could create recruiting momentum within the state for the winning program.
Head football coach Mike Norvell did speak to the media on Monday afternoon and was asked about true freshman defensive tackle Kevin Wynn. The Georgia native is already at four games played, and looks like he will likely not get to play in this one, due to the redshirt rule.
He didn't entirely rule Wynn out if injuries happened, and he had to play significant snaps, but the ultimate goal is to preserve him. Seminole fans should be excited to potentially have Kevin Wynn and Desir Twins on the defensive line. Then, it is easy to forget about talented pieces such as Tylon Lee and L A Jessie Harrold that haven't played much this season and have redshirted.
With defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. graduating at the end of the season, this is a big offseason for the youngsters on the defensive line to take another step in their developments. Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton will have his work cut out for him.
