ALL 11 DEFENSIVE PLAYERS TO THE BALL
I know that it might seem elementary, but there were times over the past few years when the defensive players were playing "hero ball". They wanted to do everything themselves.
Unfortunately, that led to a ton of missed tackles and missed coverages. This goes back to the aggression phase of the defense. It is great to be physical when playing on that side of the football, but as head football coach Mike Norvell says, "It has to be controlled".
Just imagine that your defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. gets in the backfield to tackle the Alabama running back Jam Miller (using him as an example since the Seminoles play them in the opener), but he misses the tackle. Then none of the defenders follow up with the tackle because they just assume that Jackson Jr. has Miller down in the backfield.
That is the difference between a loss of two yards and a spectacular 75-yard touchdown run. It can happen in an instant. Coach White seems like a "no-nonsense guy" that players respect and value.
I hope that the defense can play together in one of the more pivotal football seasons in Tallahassee in quite some time.
