Florida State football struggled to find effective playmakers at the wide receiver position last season, which is part of the reason it had one of the worst offenses in college football.
The Seminoles obtained wide receiver transfers last offseason, such as Alabama's Malik Benson (now at Oregon) and LSU's Jalen Brown (still on the roster). Neither of them had much production at their previous stops, but the coaching staff thought they would be effective weapons that they could mold.
Florida State also had recruits that they secured in the 2024 recruiting cycle, such as Lawayne McCoy, Elijah Moore, BJ Gibson, and Camdon Frier.
Four-star Elijah Moore was the talk of the offseason by the fan base. They were excited about his 6'4" frame and his ability to highpoint the football. The Maryland native was not an early enrollee and arrived in the summer. This is important in today's college football landscape because it allows youngsters to get acclimated to college.
The Seminoles' coaching staff understood that it could be a tall task to ask Moore to play right away, especially with Florida State having a disastrous season. This could've ruined his development as a player, so the Seminoles decided to redshirt him in 2024.
Florida State added two wide receiver transfers in the transfer portal with USC's Duce Robinson and Tennessee's Squirrel White. Robinson should be on the outside, while White should be in the slot and outside. The Seminoles will be looking for a consistent weapon on the outside.
Some names to monitor there could be Hykeem Williams, Jordan Scott, and Elijah Moore (if he develops properly). The former four-star prospect will have a whole offseason to perfect his craft and make his presence known.
While offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is known for running the football, the Seminoles will also try to take the top off of opposing defenses with occasional deep shots to wide receivers to be unpredictable.
Elijah Moore could be a perfect weapon for Malzahn to rely on in 2025.
