Florida State baseball team is currently sitting with an 11-0 overall record to start the year. The Seminoles are riding high after its College World Series appearance last year. If it wasn't for a missed call for a third strike against Tennessee, there is no telling if Florida State would have won a national championship.
Nonetheless, this is a new season that is missing guys like James Tibbs III and Cam Smith, which made Florida State's offense one of the best that it has had in quite some time.
We learn that there is a time to say goodbye and bring in the new. We are seeing that with the football program as well. However, it has to feel nice for head baseball coach Link Jarrett to have so much confidence in his squad.
He brought in a familiar piece this offseason in Florida State sophomore wide receiver BJ Gibson. During the struggling 2024 campaign for the football program, he had two receptions for 14 receptions. With that said, he showed flashes of success in practice for the Seminoles.
However, the program brought in transfers at the position this offseason, such as USC's Duce Robinson and Tennessee's Squirrel White. The focal point will most likely revolve around them and as well as his recruiting classmates at wide receivers with Lawayne McCoy, Elijah Moore, and Camdon Frier.
Our very own Kelvin Hunt mentioned how Gibson might have a difficult decision to make between football and baseball. I was skeptical about the wide receiver playing baseball this spring because I thought it could take him a while to get acclimated again with taking a break from the sport.
He picked up right where he left off.
BJ Gibson is now 7-14 to begin his baseball career after his second hit.

This is something that I didn't expect to see as Gibson is batting a .500 average. I don't know if he can keep the production up, but the opportunity could be worthwhile in baseball instead of being a reserve in football.
