Florida State sophomore wide receiver BJ Gibson was someone in the 2024 recruiting cycle who took a back seat in terms of discussion from the fan base. Much of the hype in the preseason was centered around Lawayne McCoy and Elijah Moore.

Gibson started on the Seminoles' practice squad early in the year, but he kept making play after play. The former four-star prospect was formerly committed to the Tennessee Volunteers before flipping and signing with Florida State.

The pass catcher finished 2024 with two receptions and 14 yards. It is difficult to expect a true freshman to make a significant difference in Year 1, but hopefully, the experience springboards him into 2025. Before Gibson could make a difference on the football field, he took his talents to the diamond as he made the transition of being on the Seminoles' baseball team this spring.

This took a lot of commitment for Gibson as he practices for both sports this spring. It was interesting to monitor how much playing time the wide receiver would get on the baseball team. However, he started to show flashes to head baseball coach Link Jarrett, where he was awarded his first career on Friday night versus the Georgetown Hoyas.

The outfielder made the most of his opportunities where he drew a walk, had an RBI, and a stolen base in the 7-2 victory last night to keep the Seminoles perfect on the season.

My co-worker Kelvin Hunt is right. This could be a pivotal crossroads for Gibson's football and baseball career. Selfishly, I want to see the talented athlete stick it out in football since I know that the program needs skilled playmakers, but I wouldn't blame him at all for testing his hand in the realm of baseball since he enjoys it and has a knack for the game.
