Florida State football did not have the year that it wanted in 2025, as it finished with a 5-7 record. The Seminoles started with an opening victory over Alabama, but it crumbled under the pressure of the large expectations.
Fans criticized the administration for electing to bring back head coach Mike Norvell for the 2026 season, especially after the road loss to Stanford. The fact that the Seminoles have not won a game away from Doak Campbell Stadium since November 2023 is concerning.
There is a good reason not to believe in what Coach Norvell is preaching right now, since the Seminoles have won a combined seven games in two years. The media is consistently criticizing the program, which is becoming tiresome.
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is low on more national college football lists
CBS Sports dropped its rankings for Power Four coaches, and Mike Norvell is all the way down at No. 42.

Who do you think should be higher?

Mike Norvell went down in the rankings from last year, as he was at No. 25. The program just finished with a 2-10 record in 2024, which was one of the worst seasons in program history, but maybe some individuals thought that it was a fluke.
The opening victory over Alabama had people thinking that the program would be back to its old form. However, losing seven of the last nine put a bad taste in their mouths. It made fans wonder if the administration knew what they were doing.
To make it worse, rival coaches Mario Cristobal (No. 7), Dabo Swinney (No. 11), and Jon Sumrall (No. 36) are all ranked higher than Mike Norvell. That is a terrible look for the program.
With that said, Florida State doesn't have to sit in a puddle of despair and have another losing season in 2026. It can put its head down and go to work and ensure that its losing ways never happen again.
