Can FSU play complementary football?

Pitt punting brings me to the question of can the Noles play complementary football. They did it well for the first three games. However, they have been poor at it over the last two.

Many folks blamed the FSU defense for the loss against Virginia, but forgot that the defense got stops on UVA’s first two possessions and forced punts, with the FSU offense failing to capitalize. It easily could have been 10-0 or 14-0 if that had happened, and it’s likely a different ballgame at that point.

The same thing happened against Miami. FSU scores a field goal on its first possession and the FSU defense forces a Miami punt, giving he offense the opportunity to go up 10-0, but they failed to capitalize.

At the same time, the FSU defense has allowed two long touchdown drives to start the second half of the last two games. If they got stops on those drives, and the offense scored, it’s a different vibe in those games.

The FSU defense could also do a better job getting stops after the FSU offense turns it over. There is no law that says the defense has to allow them to score when the FSU offense turns it over.

A good complementary football game would be great to see from FSU.
