Even after a really tough season in 2024, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell has found a way to still put together a solid 2026 recruiting class. So far, Florida State has the No. 14 overall recruiting class for the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports, and 4-star wide receiver Darryon Williams is a big part of that ranking.
Williams committed to Florida State just two days after his official visit back in mid-June shut down his recruitment for good. The Seminoles' biggest rivals, the Florida Gators, made a hard push for the Tampa, Florida, native, but he cited one thing that made him stick with Florida State over Florida.
"Every time I'm there, it's the same thing," Williams said. "No fake love, so it feels like I'm at home."

Apparently, Williams must have felt that even though Florida was making a push to flip his commitment, the love and want to have him in the building wasn't genuine. Even though Williams spent a good amount of time in Gainesville with an unofficial visit in January and an official visit in June, he said he received a call was Gators head coach Billy Napier saying they didn't have any more room in their wide receiver room, but they would take him as a defensive back.
Williams said his heart is on offense, and he didn't want to move to defensive back. The young receiver admitted that if there was a spot open in the wide receiver room, the thought of flipping his commitment was on the table. However, that wasn't the only reason Williams didn't pick the Gators.
The official visit that Williams took to Florida State is what ultimately sealed the deal for the Seminoles in Williams' eyes. He felt very welcomed and genuinely wanted at Florida State with Norvell being the first person to greet him when he walked in the door, as well as the rest of the coaching staff.
Williams said that Florida State just simply felt more like home than Florida did.
