2. ESTABLISH THE GROUND GAME

Florida State hired former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn to be its offensive coordinator this offseason. This looked to be a smart investment for the Seminoles since Malzahn was an experienced play caller.

His calling card when his players operate is running the football. The hope is that the defense will try to stack the box after it becomes effective and open up easier passing lanes for the quarterback and wide receivers to be successful.

The Seminoles have been successful on the ground, but the rotation at running back has been like "musical chair" in terms of who will get the carries this week. In my latest article, I highlight how this could be a good opportunity for running back Gavin Sawchuk to get back on track.

When Florida State runs the football, it should take the pressure off of quarterback Thomas Castellanos. It is concerning when Castellanos has over 25 pass attempts in a game because it isn't part of his skill set.

Florida State football is 5-1 when Castellanos throws less than 25 pass attempts (the only loss is Pittsburgh). They should be a priority in this game.
