FSU football: QB Tate Rodemaker ruled as a game time decision
FSU football will be heading into some of its most important games of the 2023 season where the Seminoles will be taking on the Louisville Cardinals in the ACC Championship Game tomorrow night at 8:00 PM EST.
Florida State has already faced its fair of adversity heading into this contest where they are without the services of redshirt senior quarterback Jordan Travis, who suffered a season-ending injury versus North Alabama.
As a result, the Seminoles had to play redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker in his place against their arch-rival Florida Gators, which secured the victory by a score of 24-15.
It wasn’t exactly a perfect performance from the Valdosta (GA) native as he completed 12 of his 25 passes for 134 yards. Unfortunately, late in the fourth quarter, the offense was faced with a 3rd & 14 on their own 42-yard line. Rodemaker did not see anything open downfield. As a result, the signal caller decided to try and pick up the conversion with his legs.
When he realized that he was not going to make the line to gain, he elected to slide to protect himself. However, two Florida Gator defenders came to make the tackle and a 15-yard personal foul penalty with targeting was imposed. It took a little while for Rodemaker to get up from the hit and true freshman Brock Glenn had to enter the game.
The veteran Rodemaker passed the sideline evaluations after the play, but he did have a few concussion symptoms the following day on Sunday. As a result, Norvell has ruled the redshirt junior as a game-time decision.
This is a significant blow for the Seminoles’ offense that prides itself on chunk plays downfield with weapons such as Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, and Jaheim Bell. If quarterback Brock Glenn has to play, I expect the coaching staff to simplify the game plan by getting the football out of his hands quickly.
This football team is built for the moment, and I’m excited to see how they respond whether it is Rodemaker or Glenn under center.
