FSU football has been a model of consistency in the college football landscape where they are considered a top fifteen program in the country.

The Seminoles have benefitted from winning three national championships (1993, 1999, and 2013). Florida State fans have certainly cherished the 2013 BCS Championship where they defeated the Auburn Tigers by a score of 34-31.

The Seminoles certainly faced adversity in the contest where they trailed by a score of 21-3 with 5:01 left to go in the second quarter. However, the play of redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston provided an offensive spark for the football team where he completed 20 of his 35 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns.

Florida State announced that their final home game in Doak Campbell Stadium of the 2023 season versus FCS opponent North Alabama has been sold-out. To put a cherry on top for fans, they are also planning to have quarterback Jameis Winston’s jersey retirement ceremony on that day.

During his two-year playing career with the Seminoles, Winston completed 562 of his 851 passes (66%) for 7,964 yards with 65 passing touchdowns and only 28 interceptions. He also showcased his dual-threat ability with 151 rushing attempts for 284 yards and seven touchdowns.

The talented signal caller will be the eleventh player in Seminole history to have his jersey retired. With the news of the program celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the 2013 national championship team, it is almost comical that former head football coach Jimbo Fisher (who was recently relieved of his duties at Texas A&M) will be able to attend the event now that he is not in College Station.

As it relates to the current team, this will be redshirt senior quarterback Jordan Travis’ final game in Doak Campbell Stadium. The West Palm Beach native has had a sensational campaign where he has mentioned in the Heisman Trophy contender conversation.

It seems as though it will be the bittersweet moment for fans in Tallahassee this weekend.
