3. FSU vs. LSU (2023)

Coming into the Florida State Seminoles’ 2023 season, most individuals felt as though the football team needed to at least split the likes of their two toughest opponents: LSU and Clemson. There was a ton of hype surrounding the LSU Tigers, given that they had finished with a 10-4 record (included a victory over Alabama). They also had pieces such as quarterback Jayden Daniels and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr.

Even though the Tigers led by a score of 17-14 at halftime, the Seminoles were able to turn it on the second half where they held LSU scoreless in the second half (until a 75-yard passing touchdown occurred late in the fourth quarter when the game had already been decided). Head football coach Mike Norvell and company asserted their dominance in the last 30 minutes of that contest in rout to a 45-24 victory. Quarterback Jordan Travis completed 23 of his 31 passes for 342 yards and five total touchdowns. Wide receivers Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman combined to have 16 receptions for 226 yards and three touchdowns (all from Coleman).

If there were any individuals that did not have Florida State in their College Football Playoff, this outcome likely persuaded that notion. This contest displayed to the college football world that the Seminoles were serious contenders.
