FSU football was without the services of redshirt senior safety Akeem Dent, redshirt junior offensive tackle Robert Scott Jr., and redshirt junior interior offensive lineman Maurice Smith in their nail-biting victory over the Boston College Eagles last week.

The impact was felt on the defensive side of the football with Dent being unavailable as a variety of players at the position had to step into elevated roles such as Kevin Knowles II.

According to a report this morning from ESPN College Football Senior Writer Pete Thamel, offensive tackle Robert Scott Jr. and safety Akeem Dent will not be available for today’s contest against the Clemson Tigers. However, interior offensive lineman Maurice Smith will be available.

While veteran Darius Washington did an exceptional job last week in a relief effort for Smith, the Miami (FL) native is the “quarterback” of the offensive line. As most know, he is the most consistent snapper on the team.

With FSU wanting to turn the page from last week’s contest against the Eagles, Smith allows the offense to get back some familiarity and allows quarterback Jordan Travis more time to find his dynamic offensive weapons downfield.

As for Smith Jr., veterans Bless Harris and Jeremiah Byers have been more than serviceable at the tackle position. The former Lamar transfer was out last year after suffering a season-ending injury in the 2022 season-opening victory over Duquesne.

Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins certainly has reliable depth in the trenches that the Seminole fans have not been accustomed to in recent years.

Individuals know how pivotal Saturday’s matchup against the Clemson Tigers is. While the availability of Dent and Scott Jr. is not ideal, the Seminoles can still manage to play well without the likes of both players.

This game could be a program-altering victory if Florida State can get the road win on Saturday afternoon.
