FSU football: ACC Power Rankings after week 1(2023)
By Kelvin Hunt
I had FSU football at the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, and I look like I was on the right track.
I don’t care how the ACC does out of conference, but FSU football and North Carolina had strong wins over SEC opponents.
Of course, Duke shocked everyone with a home win over No. 9 Clemson, in what was a weird game.
Boston College lost to Northern Illinois to further my argument since about 2021 about Jeff Hafley not being any good.
Louisville defeated Georgia Tech in a conference game to open the season, and Georgia Tech looked improved over last year. The rest of the ACC teams beat up on lower tier programs or took losses.
Anyways, here are my updated rankings after week one:
- FSU football
- Duke
- North Carolina
- Miami
- Pittsburgh
- Syracuse
- Wake Forest
- Louisville
- Virginia Tech
- NC State
- Clemson
- Georgia Tech
- Virginia
- Boston College
We’re going to find out about a few teams real quick. Miami will host Texas A&M this week, who will look to avenge last year’s loss. Can they win that game and get some much-needed momentum for Mario Cristobal and put some heat on Jimbo Fisher?
Clemson will host Charleston Southern, who look to flush that bad loss against Duke out of their system.
Virginia Tech will host Purdue. Georgia Tech will host South Carolina State, and Boston College will host Holy Cross. Duke hosts Lafayette, and Syracuse hosts Western Michigan(the former home of FSU DT Braden Fiske).
NC State will host No. 13 Notre Dame, and North Carolina will host Appalachian State. The latter should have beaten North Carolina last year and always seem to have an upset up their sleeve. Pittsburgh will host Cincinnati, and Florida State will host Southern Mississippi at 8:30 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
