FSU football will kick off its season opener against LSU on Sunday in primetime. It’s a top-10 matchup on a neutral field, with LSU as a consensus -2.5 betting favorite.

The betting lines opened near a pick’em earlier this year and have been bet up to -3 at one point but settled around -2.5 for the last few weeks.

There are a few -3 out there, but one thing I’m keeping track of is not only the line movement, but what percentage of the bets are on which team. I looked about a week ago, and 88 percent of the bets were on LSU.

That tells me the public bettors bought into the LSU No. 5 preseason ranking and likely SEC bias that comes with college football.

Now, early betting amounts are limited to fairly small bets usually. However, I’m curious to see if the line moves when the big dogs start throwing money in the pot as we get closer to the game.

The amount of bets placed on LSU has decreased from 88 percent to 78 percent since the last time I checked, and the line has remained near -2.5. Will the amount of bettors taking LSU continue to decrease as more bets get placed?

Will the late money come in on FSU football to move the line to -2 or -1.5 LSU? I know I cover FSU football, so there is some bias, whether I want to admit it or not, but I believe this FSU team has improved more than LSU did in the offseason.

They have more returning production and a better quarterback. I think they have the more complete team and could have blown LSU out last year had they executed better.

I’m still not sure why they’re the betting favorite, but it’ll be interesting to see where the late money on this game goes.
