FSU football wrapped up its 13th practice this fall, with Mike Norvell speaking to the media afterward. Norvell continues to be pleased with the team’s progress as they march toward their season opener against LSU.

The Noles will hold their second fall scrimmage Sunday night, with the scrimmage resembling more of actual gameplay instead of situational football, according to Norvell.

One thing that caught my ear from the interview is the two clips below(they are two different clips, even though it may not look like it). In the first clip, Mike Norvell gets asked about the progress of former 2023 five-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams.

I’ve said many times Norvell is more candid than most when talking to the media, and this was no different.

Norvell said Hykeem Williams is ultra-talented and making some plays but has to hone in on every aspect to reach his potential.

They’re looking for consistency and are pushing him to reach the standard under every circumstance.

This clip below also caught my attention because Norvell refers to some guys that have been in the program for a while not consistently meeting the standard. He didn’t mention them by name, but it’s a clear message sent to whoever he’s referring to.

Norvell has recently said just because players have started or played a lot in the past is no guarantee they’ll be starters in 2023. That’s what you have to have when trying to reach championship-level football.

The best players will play regardless of classification, and that sentiment sends a message to everyone.

The lack of accountability is what began the downfall of Jimbo Fisher later in his tenure.

It’s good to see Mike Norvell has maintained accountability despite the success of last year and expectations going into 2023.

We might see some new faces in the starting lineup sooner than later if some guys don’t get their act together.
