Johnny Wilson

A lot of FSU media folks didn’t appreciate the addition of Johnny Wilson when he arrived from the transfer portal before the 2022 spring semester started.

All I did was look to see he was one of the top receivers in his recruiting class that started college in the middle of a pandemic while battling some injuries in a program that wasn’t very good.

I knew one thing, you can’t teach 6’7″ with speed, and I felt he would be a vital part of the offense since he enrolled in the spring and had time to learn the offense.

That’s what happened, and Wilson became FSU’s best receiver in 2022. While his stats were impressive, he could have easily had 50 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards, if not for a few costly drops. However, we saw what he’s capable of in the bowl game against Oklahoma.

The thing is, Wilson had the season he had with teams not having to respect the tight end position or other receivers aside from Ontaria Wilson.

The additions of Coleman and Bell along with what will probably be an even better running game should give Wilson more opportunities to shine in 2023.
