They don’t call FSU football “free scouting university” for nothing. That has been the case with Mike Norvell and the staff, particularly in recruiting the quarterback position.

The Noles were among the first to offer 2024 quarterback commit Luke Kromenhoek, a three-star recruit who had not started a varsity high school game before committing to the Noles.

In hindsight, the move proved genius, as Kromenhoek ranks among the top quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle and a top 150 player overall.

The 2025 recruiting cycle follows a similar pattern with quarterback commit Tramell Jones.

Jones committed to the Noles on April 1st, 2023, as a three-star recruit. However, after some performances at camp, Jones classifies as a composite four-star recruit.

He ranks as the No. 288 player and the No. 20 quarterback nationally. Jones lists 6’0″ and 195 pounds(according to his Twitter update). However, he’s still relatively young and could continue to grow as his body physically matures.

He already possesses a strong arm with excellent athleticism. It’s all about improving mechanics and processing information as defenses try to stop him. Jones is also teammates with 2025 five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, who has FSU football in his top five and plans to announce a commitment decision on July 22. Could the two team up and play together at FSU?

That’s the hope, but the trend of FSU coaches identifying talent early and offering has happened at multiple positions. Quarterback (Kromenhoek), defensive end(Nyjalik Kelly), Elijah Moore(four-star receiver offered by John Papuchis in the eighth grade) are great examples.

I know fans love to see all of the stars beside the player names, but it’s important to remember the staff does a great job with evaluations, and just because a player may not be a four or five-star when they commit doesn’t mean they are not a good player.

The proof is in the pudding with this staff.
