FSU football: Transfer WR Keon Coleman commits to FSU
FSU football received wonderful news on Wednesday as Michigan State wide receiver transfer Keon Coleman has committed to the Seminoles over the Ole Miss Rebels.
Coleman has been a transfer prospect that the coaching staff has been heavily communicating since he entered the transfer portal on April 30, 2023.
During the 2022 season, the Opelousas, Louisiana native recorded 58 receptions for 798 yards and seven touchdowns for the Spartans. He lists at 6’4″ and 210 pounds.
One important factor that Coleman considered when transferring to his next destination is quarterback play.
FSU football signal caller Jordan Travis had a remarkable 2022 season, completing 226 of his 353 passes for 3,631 total yards and 31 touchdowns. He opted to return to Tallahassee for his final season of eligibility in 2023 as the Seminoles look to build upon their 10-win season in 2022. The Seminoles’ offense was absolutely electric last season, averaging 36.1 points per game.
This is a Florida State football team that has elevated expectations heading into the fourth season of head football coach Mike Norvell’s tenure in Tallahassee. With the Coleman commitment, the Seminoles have 82 scholarship players on its roster.
The Seminoles are returning redshirt junior wide receiver Johnny Wilson, who had 43 receptions for 897 yards and five touchdowns last year.
However, Florida State has to find reliable options in their position unit after their second and third leading receivers, Pokey Wilson (495 yards and four touchdowns) and Mycah Pittman (330 yards and three touchdowns) will not be returning for the 2023 season.
This addition is where Coleman could showcase his skill set in the offense, utilizing his big-bodied frame to highpoint the football to win one-on-one matchups. He allows converting third downs and coming away with touchdowns in the red zone easier. The Seminoles now possess 11 scholarship pass catchers (wide receivers and tight ends) who are 6’3″ and taller on their roster. It seems as though this coaching staff has prioritized towering offensive weapons.
