FSU football will have its first scrimmage of the 2023 spring practice Saturday. However, as customary, the first spring scrimmages under Mike Norvell are almost always tons of situational football instead of a free-flowing game.

The second scrimmage will be more like an actual game, with the end of spring camp culminating in the spring game.

Players receive grades for every practice, but the scrimmages are what I like to call ‘moving day’ on the depth chart.

Think of it like regular practices are like quizzes, and scrimmages are like major tests. There have been tons of competition across multiple positions thus far. One position that’s locked up is the quarterback position under Jordan Travis.

Mike Norvell has already stated Jordan Travis wouldn’t see a ton of time in the scrimmages because they know he can do. It’ll be an opportunity for players like Tate Rodemaker and AJ Duffy to get major reps with the first team offense and potentially separate themselves.

It’ll be a learning experience for freshman Brock Glenn, who has exhibited great work ethic this spring.

Here are a few more expectations for the first spring scrimmage.
