FSU football: 3 keys to defeating Oklahoma in Cheez-It Bowl

Stay Ahead Of The Chains On Offense
FSU football is familiar with Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables from his defensive coordinator stint at Oklahoma.
He’s one of the best defensive minds in college football, and he’s working to build at Oklahoma what he built at Clemson on the defensive side.
It takes time to do that, and he’s got to acquire more talent. While the Oklahoma defense wasn’t the strength of the team in 2022, they flashed the ability to cause havoc and put teams in tough situations.
They were No. 5 nationally in tackles for a loss, with 25 percent coming against UTEP and Kent State. However, they had at least eight tackles for a loss in six BIG 12 games.
The FSU offense was the most explosive in the nation and has overcome second and third and long situations this season. However, it’s not a position they want to be Thursday night.
The FSU offense is at its best when they find success on early downs in the running game and get into an offensive rhythm to set up explosive plays down the field.
The Sooners have struggled to stop the run and allowed 5.57 yards per play this season. It might take a couple of series to get going since they haven’t played in a month, but FSU should move the ball once they get settled.
