FSU football enters the 2022 season predicted to finish fifth in the ACC Atlantic Division. The ACC has four teams ranked in the preseason top 25:

  • Clemson-No. 4
  • NC State-No. 13
  • Miami-No. 16
  • Wake Forest-No. 22

The Noles didn’t receive any votes in the preseason AP Poll and only received one vote in the preseason Coaches Poll. I wouldn’t expect national voters to know the ins and outs of programs and if they are improving or not.

They go on perception a lot, and it’s why you see a team like Miami ranked No. 16 when they finished 7-6 last year, and the only thing that changed was their coaching staff. The ACC has four tiers of teams. Clemson is the top dog, and then a few teams have the potential to be good.

A couple of teams can surprise folks, and the rest will be terrible. Here are my ACC Power Rankings by division and then overall:

ACC Atlantic

  • Clemson
  • NC State
  • FSU
  • Louisville
  • Wake Forest
  • Boston College
  • Syracuse

ACC Coastal

  • Pittsburgh
  • Miami
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia Tech
  • Georgia Tech
  • Duke

Overall Power Rankings

  • Clemson
  • NC State
  • Pittsburgh
  • FSU
  • Louisville
  • Miami
  • Wake Forest
  • Boston College
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia Tech
  • Syracuse
  • Georgia Tech
  • Duke

The top six teams in the overall power rankings should or have the potential to win eight games. Some have more favorable schedules than others (coughs, Miami), and Wake Forest would be a candidate to win close to eight games if Sam Hartman wasn’t going to miss time due to whatever he has going on health wise.

However, the rest of the ACC isn’t going to be very good at all. Boston College can’t stop the run and will have a entire new offensive line. Virginia’s defense is terrible, and they have a new coaching staff, but they return their starting QB.

North Carolina couldn’t win with arguably the best QB in their history, and their defense is terrible.

Virginia Tech has a new staff. Syracuse returns a lot on defense, but their offense likely continues to be terrible, and they play a murderer’s row schedule. Georgia Tech and Duke will be awful.
