FSU football head coach Mike Norvell caught a lot of criticism for how the 2022 class looked at the end of the Early Signing Period in December.

They did a solid job addressing the offensive line and signed blue-chip quarterback AJ Duffy. The two top-100 defensive backs, Sam McCall and Azareye’h Thomas were huge additions.

However, the staff signed only one linebacker and zero wide receivers from the high school ranks, both at major positions of need.

That meant the coaching staff had to tackle the transfer portal with wreckless abandon at those positions while bringing in additional help for the offensive line and the defensive end positions.

It has been a delicate balance of bringing in talented high school players and players from the transfer portal that can contribute immediately.

The latter is why FSU football closed the gap and was competitive in nearly every game instead of suffering blowout losses like the last few seasons.

FSU coaches added 13 players from the transfer portal, which is one more than the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Ironically, the last addition, Malik Feaster, hasn’t joined the team yet since he didn’t graduate from Jacksonville State until Friday, August 5. Here are my top 5 most impactful transfer players for the 2022 season.
