FSU football: Why eight wins should be expectation in 2022
By Kelvin Hunt
Talent Level
A lack of talent wasn’t why FSU went 5-7 in 2021. The main reason is they lost their starting QB for multiple games. If we look at the overall composite rankings from Collegefootballdata.com, there were five teams on their schedule with more talent:
- Clemson-935.08 (No. 4 overall)
- Florida-885.67 (No. 9 overall)
- Notre Dame-853.10 (No. 12 overall)
- Miami-841.45 (No. 13 overall)
- North Carolina-798.29 (No. 17 overall)
FSU football checked in at No. 20 (769.76) overall. They beat Miami and North Carolina and played close games with the other three teams. FSU had one player drafted in the first round and a few who signed as undrafted free agents. They didn’t lose a ton of talent.
Here’ a list of the teams FSU football will play in 2022 that list as teams with lesser talent:
- Louisville
- Wake Forest
- Boston College
- Syracuse
- NC State
- Georgia Tech
- Duquesne
- Louisiana
That’s eight teams, but the biggest X-factor is almost all of them return their starting QB.
