FSU baseball: Noles defeat Miami Hurricanes to split doubleheader

FSU baseball (31-18, 14-12 ACC) rebounded in the second game of the doubleheader to defeat the Miami Hurricanes 6-4.

The Noles got on the board first with a bases-loaded balk. However, the bottom of the third inning saw the Noles score four more runs for a 5-0 lead. Jordan Carrion launched a 2-0 fastball over the leftfield wall for a two-run home run.

Brett Roberts hit a ball deep to centerfield that scored a run, and Alex Toral scorched a two-out RBI single.

The Roberts ball was an error that got ruled as a hit. The Noles wasted a key moment to score in the bottom of the fourth when Tyler Martin led off the inning with a single.

He moved to third base on a throwing error while stealing second. Jordan Carrion hit a bullet line drive to third base for an out, and James Tibbs struckout for the third time, before Jaime Ferrer flew out to end the inning. Miami scored in the top of the fifth inning as Bryce Hubbart walked the No. 8 batter, and he moved to second base on a wild pitch and scored on a single.

Bryce Hubbart struck out a batter, but the catcher dropped the ball and made an error on the throw to first. Miami scored two more runs on a hit up the middle before the third out on a play at home plate.

FSU baseball answered in the bottom of the fifth. Reese Albert and Brett Roberts led off the inning with singles, and Alex Toral launched a sacrifice fly to score Roberts for a 6-3 score. The Noles squandered another prime scoring opportunity in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Martin led off with a double and stole third. However, Jordan Carrion, James Tibbs, and Jaime Ferrer struckout to end the inning. Miami wasted no time getting something going in the top of the seventh. The first batter got an infield single.

Wyatt Crowell hit the next batter on a 1-2 count, and the next batter laid a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Miami scored a run on a swing and a miss that the FSU catcher missed catching the ball to make it 6-4. However, Crowell struckout two batters and got a flyout to end the inning. FSU threatned again in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second with one out before the next two batters struckout.

Tyler Martin and Jordan Carrion walked to lead off the eigth inning, and Logan Lacey executed a sacrifice bunt to move them up to second and third with one out. Jaime Ferrer walked to load the bases and Reese Albert hit a fielderโ€™s choice with Martin thrown out at home. Brett Roberts grounded out to end the inning. The Noles were 1-20 with runnerโ€™s in scoring position.

Bryce Hubbart went five innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, two walks, and 10 strikeouts. Wyatt Crowell relieved him in the sixth inning and finished the game, allowing two hits, zero walks, and seven strikeouts.

Sundayโ€™s game will begin at 12 p.m. as FSU has a chance to win the pivotal series.
