Jared Verse

The defensive end position was a position of need once Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas completed their final season with FSU in 2021.

Transfer defensive end Jared Verse became the No. 1 target in the transfer portal after the season concluded. I know FSU fans hate missing on Amarius Mims, but the Verse recruitment was a battle the staff closed on with many schools vying for his commitment.

While I don’t think anyone expected him to replace the production of Johnson or Thomas, Verse showed a lot of promise this spring, gaining the respect of his teammates and coaching staff. He displayed tons of raw ability and the intensity you want from the position.

At the very least, spring revealed, Verse belongs at the Power 5 level after coming from the FCS competition.

Now it’s about learning his role in the defense and playing it consistently, based upon what’s called by Adam Fuller. I’m not sure what numbers I’d project for him this year, but a strong fall camp should give better insight.
