FSU football gained a nice commitment Friday morning, and it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke. 2023 three-star wide receiver Darren Lawrence announced his commitment to the Noles in a video with USA Today.

It is the sixth commitment for the Noles and the second wide receiver in the class. The former Florida commitment has been on FSU’s campus multiple times since receiving his offer on February 5th.

He de-committed from his Florida commitment on January 16th but visited the new Florida staff on March 3rd. However, multiple visits to Tallahassee helped Lawrence decide what was best.

He ranks as the No. 476 player and No. 63 wide receiver nationally. However, I can assure you there are not 60+ wide receivers better than him.

He should receive a fourth star once 2023 recruiting rankings receive updates. He lists 6’2′ 190 pounds and has 16 offers while playing in the highest classification in Florida. Lawrence is a big physical receiver with very good speed, as evident in his film as he runs past guys with pursuit angles.

FSU is in a solid position for several blue-chip wide receivers, so accepting his commitment tells me he’s a high-value target. I know they’ll take at least one more wide receiver, but I’m curious how the recruiting board shakes out after that.

I could see them taking four since they didn’t sign any high school receivers in the 2022 cycle. However, they’d likely want to be highly selective regarding which commitments they accept. Will that put pressure on a couple of guys to decide sooner than later?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Noles landed another one between now and the spring game.

I’m sure there will be some attrition from the FSU football roster at that position either before the season or afterward. Credit to Ron Dugans, who played a part in securing this commitment.
