FSU football cornerback Jarvis Brownlee entered the transfer portal Thursday morning after missing spring practice for whatever reasons he deemed necessary.

Brownlee was a starter on last year’s team, who had his moments, both good and bad. However, he likely would have had to fight to keep his starting position at field corner.

That’s a good problem to have when trying to re-build a team and its culture. The good news is there are several players with the talent to replace Brownlee since the defensive back is a position they have recruited well, even though recruiting overall hasn’t been at typical FSU levels for the past few seasons.

Here are some guys to keep an eye on who could replace Brownlee in 2022 (in no particular order).

Kevin Knowles

The field cornerback position covers the larger side of the field based on where the ball is on the hashes. This player is usually a smaller defensive back that’s not afraid to be physical. Kevin Knowles fits that bill and is from South Florida like Brownlee.

Knowles played in all 12 games as a freshman mostly at the nickel position and tallied 26 tackles with two passes defended. He lists at 5’11” and 185 pounds and isn’t afraid to be physical in the run game. He came on strong in the second half of the season, with 16 of his 26 tackles coming in the final three games against Miami, Boston College, and Florida.
