FSU football: Staff laid groundwork for 2023 recruiting during COVID
By Kelvin Hunt
2023 Recruiting
In early August 2020, the FSU football staff had already offered 50 recruits, with 74 percent of the offers coming from players in Florida and Georgia. They had offered three players from the 2024 class at this time. Here’s what I said at the time:
"It’s when Mike Norvell can say we’ve been recruiting you for the last 2-3 years. IF the product on the field is improved, there’s a higher probability FSU will gain commitments from better quality players."
The record doesn’t necessarily reflect it, but the product on the field in 2021 is night and day compared to what we saw from 2018-2020. They have to continue to show that progression in the 2022 season, but I like the direction. If we fast forward from August 2020 to nine months ago? FSU had offered 165 players (82 from Florida and Georgia), and FSU has offered an additional 125 players from then until now (290 offered in 2023 class). We have to remember recruits couldn’t officially come to campus to meet the staff until June 2021.
A large number of those players came to FSU’s campus several times last year and saw the product on the field. They saw how FSU practiced, and many of them came back for the first spring practice over the weekend. Those players can see the progression, and those relationships have continually been built since those offers went out in 2020.
