FSU softball: Noles avoid upset bid by Florida A&M

The final score doesn’t indicate how close the FSU softball game was against FAMU Wednesday night. The Noles avoided an upset bid by the Rattlers, coming from behind in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 8-3 after trailing 3-2 to begin the inning.

The Rattlers got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Emma Wilson gave up a two-run home run. Wilson only completed one inning before being taken out of the game and replaced by Brianna Enter.

Enter completed three innings, finishing with three hits allowed, two strikeouts, one walk, and one run(unearned) allowed. Kathryn Kathryn Sandercock came in to finish the final three innings, finishing with five strikeouts and one hit allowed.

The FSU offense wasted several opportunities to burst the game open early, squandering several scoring opportunities. That got on the board in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, but that was the only run they could push across.

FAMU increased their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning. The leadoff batter singled and advanced to second base on a throwing error before scoring on a hit later in the inning.

The Noles got that run back in the bottom of the fourth when Sydney Sherrill walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Josie Muffley. However, it wasn’t until the bottom of the sixth before the Noles finally broke through for six runs on four hits and several walks.

Josie Muffley led the Noles with three hits and an RBI. Jahni Kerr, Sydney Sherrill, and Devyn Flaherty had two hits. Kerr and Hallie Wacaser had two RBI’s each.

FSU softball will be back in action Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET as they host Hofstra in the first game of the Unconquered Invitational.
