2021 NCAA Softball Tournament, June 10th

The softball season had to be one of the craziest things, especially in the national tournament. It had weather postponements and subsequent early morning games, the backdrop of the pandemic, and the push of gender equity in the NCAA tournament set up, our girls fought for a close second place.

The early tournament wins lead to a narrow win over LSU in extra innings. Unfortunately, a loss to UCLA followed, and they entered into the losers bracket. There they beat No.11 Arizona.

Then beat two top-five teams with Oklahoma State in an early morning thriller, and Alabama meeting their end in two straight games in a best of three series against the Seminoles.

FSU started well against Oklahoma and took the first game in the series. When they lost the final two games against Oklahoma, the Seminoles would end the season as runner-ups.

Everything seemed to snowball in those final matchups. The fatigue from the schedule troubles, pandemic protocols, and us vs. world mentality had to be draining. In the end, FSU lost grip on the series and a chance at their second title in 3 years.

It was a net positive given the circumstances, and the future is bright for the program as they prepare for a new season.
