FSU VS Louisville, February 21, Women’s Basketball
Nothing has epitomized the adversity of early 2021 like the women’s basketball team. In the midst of a COVID-influenced season that saw early cancellations and a new coach take the reigns.
In the midst of the chaos, the women’s team saw the first three games of the new year canceled until they finally took the court again in a lopsided loss to the Louisville Cardinals, one of the better teams in the nation.
A little over a month later, the Seminoles got their revenge. It was back and forth early, with teams exchanging baskets, rebounds, and fouls. The end of the first quarter saw the Cardinals with a narrow three-point lead.
The FSU defense responded aggressively, holding Louisville to a single-digit quarter score and taking a two-point lead into the half. The see-saw affair only continued to unfold as the Seminoles were down seven in the third quarter until they took the lead with roughly six minutes remaining.
The largest lead of the game came late for FSU as they were up nine going into the final minutes.
It was a big upset late in the season that helped them down the stretch to make an NCAA tournament appearance. It was there that the season also ended against Oregon State. It’s always disappointing when your favorite team doesn’t win the whole thing, but their performances were admirable.
