FSU defensive analyst Randy Shannon brought a lot of value when he joined Mike Norvell’s staff about eight months ago.
We were talking over 30 years of coaching experience, including head coach of a Power 5 program, the defensive coordinator at several stops, and a solid recruiter in Florida for a few thousand dollars per year.
However, it’s almost like the promotion of Randy Shannon to linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator was something we saw coming when he came on board.
Here’s what I wrote when Shannon joined Norvell’s staff:
"It also gives FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller another person on the staff with years of experience to lean on when game-planning opponents. Shannon’s experience as a linebackers coach should help that unit as well. Shannon should help do that and could fill a coaching role on defense should any changes take place in the future at linebacker’s coach or defensive coordinator."
FSU made the promotion of Shannon public today:

🍢21 1st-round selections

The news comes days after FSU linebackers coach Chris Marve left for the defensive coordinator position at Virginia Tech.
The promotion of Shannon makes a lot of sense, considering the state of the program and how his first eight months at FSU have gone. Here are some thoughts on the promotion.
