Recruiting

I have a lot of respect for what Chris Marve did on the field in 2021, developing Kalen DeLoach and DJ Lundy to a respectable level.

The linebacker position at FSU has been an eyesore for several years, and this season was the first time they looked competent, considering a few physical limitations in coverage with Lundy. The two combined for 69 tackles each and 11.5 tackles for a loss.

However, the issue with Marve was on the recruiting trails, where he struggled to close the deal with several blue-chip targets. FSU went life and death with Georgia Tech for Jaron Willis, who’s still committed to the Yellow Jackets.

Bissainthe chose Miami, Demario Tolen chose LSU, and EJ Lightsy chose Florida. FSU has one linebacker commit with underrated three-star prospect Omar Graham Jr. in a season where they needed at least two and probably three linebacker commits.

FSU could upgrade at the position from a recruiting perspective, but we’ll have to wait and see what direction Mike Norvell will choose with the staff on the recruiting trails so much before the Early Signing Period.

If they can get a better recruiter/evaluator and competent talent developer, that’s a win for Mike Norvell.
