Other Options

Hopefully, Chris Marve can land at least one of those players. If so, that likely means they can fill the other need from the transfer portal or possibly take a flyer on three-star Devin Smith.

Smith is a player I mentioned months ago who hails from Jacksonville, Florida. He visited FSU in March and twice in early June and named the Noles his leader in June 2020. Smith lists at 6’2 and 235 pounds and ranks as the No. 1,004 player overall and No. 99 linebacker.

I think the question, is can he cover in space at that size? I’d doubt it, and they already have a thumper at linebacker with DJ Lundy.

The good news for FSU football is the transfer portal will likely continue to fill with talent at a record pace.

It’s not an area they need to live in every recruiting cycle, but the portal is where they can get players with experience who can make an impact right away, opposed to waiting a year or two for high school players to develop enough to contribute.

If they have to go that route without landing Willis or Brule? I think Mike Norvell has a decision to make at the linebacker coaching spot. One last thing I would consider is moving 2022 FSU ATH commit Brian Courtney from tight end to linebacker. He’s 6’4 and 225 pounds while running a 4.5 forty and incredibly smart. He’s used to contact because he plays quarterback in a wing-t system in high school. I think he’d be much more impactful there than at tight end.
