FSU football: Top 5 positional needs from transfer portal
By Kelvin Hunt
Wide Receiver
The wide receiver was arguably the weakest position on the team in 2021. Kansas transfer wide receiver Andrew Parchment came to improve the unit, and it didn’t work out how everyone would have liked.
FSU lacks talent and needs to take 1-2 players from the transfer portal that can make an impact. A running back led the team with only 25 receptions, and no wide receiver had more than 24. Ontaria Wilson led the team with 382 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
The Noles need wide receivers that can stretch the field vertically and receivers that can beat man-to-man coverage off the line of scrimmage.
They had neither in 2021 and when they did make catches, there were hardly any yards after the catch. There are at least 2-3 wide receivers on the roster who are dead weight and need replacing by more talented players.
FSU coaches have already contacted at least two wide receivers in the transfer portal, Mycah Pittman and Joshua Moore. I think Pittman would be a solid addition, but I’d pass on Moore.
A prior FSU coaching staff recruited Moore while he was in high school, and that ordeal was drama-filled and full of attention-seeking stuff. Hopefully, the coaching staff will do their due diligence and bring in some difference-makers.
The Noles have an underrated commit in DeVaughn Mortimer and could add five-star Kevin Coleman into the mix. Destyn Hill is reportedly supposed to enroll in the spring as well. If they add those three and add 1-2 guys from the transfer portal, this position would be greatly improved.
