Defensive Tackle

This position would be dependent upon who leaves and who stays. Robert Cooper and Fabien Lovett could come back for another year if they wanted, but there’s no guarantee both, or even one of them will.

If they both come back(not likely), there’s no need to use a spot from the transfer portal.

If only one or neither returns, I think they’ll need to find an experience plug-and-play guy. The Noles will return Dennis Briggs Jr.(starter), Malcolm Ray(reserve), and Jarrett Jackson(reserve).

The latter two showed better improvement than expected, but that leaves Joshua Farmer and Shambre Jackson going into their second year in the program with little to no experience.

FSU could flip and sign top 100 player Tyre West who’s currently committed to Georgia. He’s a guy that can play as a freshman more than likely, but he’s still inexperienced and doesn’t need to play hundreds of snaps as a true freshman. Commits Bishop Thomas and Daniel Lyons will need time to develop physically and get used to the college game.

We should know what Cooper and Lovett decide soon, and then we’ll see what approach the coaching staff takes at the position.

The defensive tackle position was a strength in 2021, and that needs to continue in 2022 if the defense is to maintain or improve.
