Offensive Minded Coach

Napier is a former QB at Furman and has been an offensive coordinator twice before becoming a head coach.

As stated, Dabo Swinney fired him at Clemson were his offense finished No. 47 and No. 60. His time at Arizona State saw them finish ranked No. 34 offensively, according to FEI advanced metrics. Here’s where Louisiana-Lafayette finished offensively in the four years he was there:

  • No. 94 overall and No. 36 offensively
  • No. 31 overall and No. 20 offensively
  • No. 19 overall and No. 25 offensively
  • No. 47 overall and No. 43 offensively

It’s clear he can improve a team as judged by the overall advanced metrics, but it seems his offenses remain the same for the most part. There isn’t much linear progression of improvement when compared to what Mike Norvell did at Memphis:

  • No. 30 offensively
  • No. 17 offensively
  • No. 40 offensively
  • No. 8 offensively

We’ve already seen Mike Norvell take the FSU offense from No. 95 to No. 39(with three games without his starting QB). He’ll have better access to talent with the Florida brand, but can he get those players to Gainesville?
