FSU football: State of Florida ripe for Noles to take back over
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
Mike Norvell is the only coach of the big three that can point towards an upward trajectory. He still gets the benefit of the doubt from recruits because he began his career at FSU during COVID, so the 2021 season is the first that he could make an impact.
The record doesn’t reflect it, but there are clear signs of progress, and beating Miami further cements that process. A win over Florida would certainly solidify that process. However, I don’t think a win HAS to happen because of the position Mullen is in at Florida.
FSU already has the highest-ranked recruiting class of the three programs at No. 13, and that’s coming off the worst season in FSU football history.
The coaching staff has outworked both programs to establish the relationships needed to take control back in the state. It’s why so many recruits visited Tallahassee for the Miami game, despite the 3-6 record before the win over Miami. They are in the mix for several heavy hitters and will likely take a few players from the transfer portal again.
I think high school coaches in Florida realize what’s happening among the three programs too. If Mike Norvell can cap off this 2022 recruiting class with the difference-makers needed to finish the roster flip? It’ll be FSU’s turn to run the Sunshine State once again.
