FSU football: Why Noles should pursue graduate transfer QB for 2022
By Kelvin Hunt
Experience/Competition
The situation isn’t much different than last season when FSU football signed McKenzie Milton. I think anyone around the program will tell admit signing Milton has been one of the best things they could have done despite him not amounting to what they thought he could be on the field.
The experience he brought to the quarterback room has been invaluable, and he legitimately pushed Jordan Travis to become an improved player. If Mike Norvell doesn’t find a graduate transfer QB?
That means FSU will not have a quarterback with college experience on the roster except Jordan Travis(who’s often injured). It will likely not seem like a legitimate quarterback competition. If that’s the case, would Jordan Travis work as hard to improve as he would if there was a legitimate challenge for the job?
AJ Duffy is one of the top prospects in 2022, and enrolling in January will help fast track to compete for the job. However, there’s still little to no experience at the position. A graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining solves both of those problems.
If the graduate transfer beats Jordan Travis for the job, that means FSU football will have a better option at quarterback in 2022. Jordan Travis or Rodemaker could decide to hit the transfer portal in that case, but that would be a chance I’d be willing to take.
Either way, Travis was going to compete for the job if Purdy remained on the roster.
