FSU football has lost five games this season, with three of those losses by four points or less (not counting the final score in the Clemson game).

I wrote after the Wake Forest game FSU football fans had lost faith in Mike Norvell, but he has been able to galvanize this team.

They have improved overall, and advanced metrics support that sentiment. The eye test supports this sentiment, and it seems like this program needs an infusion of talent to get to the next level.

FSU has to play near perfect to beat average teams, and we saw an average team with more talent overcome several miscues to beat FSU Saturday night.

Now it looks like FSU football fans have seen enough for restored faith in Mike Norvell and the program direction, despite a 3-5 record.

Thoughts

I’m not sold on FSU making a bowl game, and I wrote about the importance of responding to adversity after the Clemson loss.

However, it is a different team from the last 2-3 years. They are mentally stronger and more disciplined or at least have been for the most part in the last 4-5 games. I think FSU can beat NC State and Miami.

They could lose to them if they don’t play well, and I think they should soundly beat Boston College. Who knows how the Florida game will shake out. Maybe the Gators will fall apart after getting dominated by Georgia?

I hope FSU takes the one-game season approach for the next four games. I also hope the fans show up and pack Doak Campbell Stadium in support of these players.

They are playing hard and deserve to have a stadium rocking the same way Clemson fans showed up for their program Saturday afternoon.
