Third Down Defense

FSU’s defense has shown improvement compared to last year, but their third-down defense has a ways to go before they can take the next step.

In wins, FSU has allowed offenses to convert 36 percent of the time. In losses, teams converted 44.93 percent of the time.

FSU allows teams to convert 42.55 percent overall, which is an improvement over last year’s 46 percent mark. However, it’s frustrating when the defense does a solid job of getting teams into predictable situations only to see teams converting at such a high rate.

The Noles have one of the best defensive lines in the ACC and talent in the secondary, but they have faced some of the better quarterbacks in the ACC in the first half of the season.

The different combinations mentioned earlier involved much of the secondary, and the Noles should be in a better position after the bye-week.

IF the Noles can clean up this facet of the defense, they could be a formidable unit considering some of the quarterbacks they’ll face soon.
